Decentralized systems like AirSwap enable peer-to-peer asset transfer without relying on third-parties to broker trades or custody assets. Over-the-counter (OTC) transactions, however, are still often facilitated via chat room based escrow services that can turn out to be malicious. Stories of escrow failures and scams have led to fear and frustration within our community.
Trustless OTC Trading
Last August, we launched AirSwap OTC, providing a trustless way to conduct OTC trading without third-party escrows, deposits, or trading fees. A clean interface and a simple workflow enable traders to build and share orders that instantly execute and settle via the audited smart contracts underlying the AirSwap network.
AirSwap OTC has been used successfully by several projects, including Synthetix and Tellor, to trustlessly trade within their communities. We’ve observed a diversity of transactions, with small to large trades across a variety of tokens. Moreover, as a testament to its need within our community, we’ve seen chat rooms adopt AirSwap OTC as a preferred trading tool.
Why Projects Prefer AirSwap OTC
Today, we are taking this a step further. Recognizing that the choice to use AirSwap OTC is based on a belief that it is the safe, reliable alternative, we’ve launched an initiative along with several leading projects that prefer AirSwap for their communities.
With this initiative, there are two major components:
- Token projects have endorsed AirSwap OTC, giving traders confidence that their community is using a safe OTC trading solution.
- AirSwap OTC now includes a “Trusted By” section in the token selector, giving traders confidence that other major projects have endorsed the product.
